Who We Are

Thank you for your interest in BFSMS!  We know that there are so many schools from which to choose and the decision can be complicated and stressful.  Allow us to take that stress away as we explain who we are and why this is the right school for your child.

We are so excited to announce S.T.E.A.M. as a component of our curriculum.  Standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics, STEAM is the integrated approach to learning that allows and encourages students to think about real-world problems.  The benefit of STEAM versus STEM is that "STEAM is a way to take the benefits of STEM and complete the package by integrating these principles in and through the arts.  STEAM takes STEM to the next level: it allows students to connect their learning in these critical areas together with art practices, elements, design principles, and standards to provide the whole pallet of learning at their disposal.  STEAM removes limitations and replaces them with wonder, critique, inquiry, and innovation." The Buckner Fanning School at Mission Springs (BFSMS) was opened in 1998 by Reverend Buckner Fanning with the goal to provide a school with rigorous academics, small class sizes, and Christian Education within a beautiful Hill-Country setting.  As we celebrate our 20th year, we are incredibly proud of our students and faculty, who make BFSMS the exceptional school that it is today.

BFSMS has adopted the Core Knowledge Foundation’s curriculum, entitled Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E.D. Hirsch, Jr., as the basis for the school’s curriculum.  The content is specifically a core of shared knowledge that provides children with a solid foundation of learning.  Our rigorous curriculum paired with our experienced and dedicated teachers, enables us to educate the whole child.  Using a combination of the Core Knowledge Sequence, Singapore Math, STEAM, Fine Arts, and Christian Education, we help students become well-rounded individuals.

We are a small school, enabling us to offer small class sizes to ensure each student has individualized attention and can learn in their own optimal way.  By having not only a low student-to-teacher ratio, but also a small cap of students per class, has great benefits for the students.  Teachers are able to truly teach and focus on the students, making sure students remain engaged and truly understand the content.  There is opportunity for greater student participation, encouraging deeper conversations and allowing students to form their own opinions.  Students are also able to grasp concepts at a faster pace and a deeper level, enabling teachers to cover more content.  We love the small class setting and see the benefits in our students on a daily basis.

With our Nondenominational Christian Education, we embrace students from a variety of faiths. Through Bible study and daily Chapel, prayer and studying beliefs, we help students grow closer to God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

In closing, we recognize that positive self-esteem rises through self-respect as result of hard work, accomplishments, respect for others, and sincere encouragement from the faculty and staff.  We consider this piece to be an integral part of our education and are dedicated to our students and their families to ensure we are delivering the best education and most positive experience possible.  Our daily mission here on campus is to promote a lifetime desire for learning, equipping our students with the tools necessary to help them shape and better the world in which they live.

We are excited to share our school and beautiful campus with you! Please contact Griselda Reyna to schedule a tour to learn more and experience BFSMS first hand.
