Q: What is the Annual Fund Program and why is it important for the Parents to contribute?
A: Contributions to the BFSMS Annual Fund are the cornerstone of all fundraising efforts. BFSMS, like most independent schools, relies on income other than tuition to fully support its programs and facility. At BFSMS , tuition alone does not cover the total cost of education and the Annual Fund helps make up the difference between tuition revenues and the actual costs of educating our students. Annual Fund contributions are essential for the growth of the school. We ask that you make this your primary gift to BFSMS .
Q: What does the Annual Fund support?
A: The Annual Fund supports everything we do at BFSMS - all the educational programs and enables us to continue to enhance all of the academic offerings in areas such as Christian education curriculum, science and foreign languages, to invest in the technology, and to expand our programs in athletics and the arts. Most importantly it allows BFSMS to recruit and retain remarkable faculty who are dedicated to developing well-rounded and confident children. A gift to SMS is a gift to your child’s education and growth and to the future of a whole generation of children.
Q: What is the relationship between tuition and the Annual Fund?
A: Every effort is made to keep tuition affordable for families. Salaries constitute about 86% of the school tuition income. At that, our teachers are paid, on average, half of what local public school personnel with similar experience are paid. Annual Fund contributions are a critically needed portion of the school income to fund the enriching programs – beyond the basic essential- that make BFSMS so special. A major increase in tuition would seriously limit the number of qualified and deserving students who could not afford to attend. And, unlike tuition, Annual Fund contributions are 100% tax deductible.
Q: How does giving to the Annual Fund benefit me?
A: Your gift is a direct investment in your children. Because BFSMS is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, your gift to the Annual Fund is 100% deductible. Think of how few opportunities there are to make a charitable gift that directly benefits your own children. All Annual Fund dollars raised are used in the current year to fund programs and educational expenses already put in place by the school to benefit your children immediately.
Q: How much should I give?
A: We ask that you give proportionately, consistently, unconditionally, and unselfishly. Gifts of all sizes make a difference. 100% participation from our families sends a message to members of the BFSMS community and to outside funding sources that those who benefit most from BFSMS support it. Foundations, corporations, and philanthropic organizations invariably want to know if the parent community supports the school with their own gifts to the Annual Fund. We encourage ALL of our families to contribute at the highest level appropriate for them. There are opportunities to participate at various levels of giving:
Visionary: $25,000 +
Benefactor: $10,000 - $24,999
Leadership Circle: $5,000 - $9,999
(Leadership Circle and above are invited to the Head of School Reception held in late spring.)
Patron: $1,000 - $4,999
Friends: $500 - $999
Blue and Gold: Up to $499
Q: How can I double my contribution?
A: Many employers will match an employee’s gift to a school. Any matching gifts will be combined with yours to determine the giving level at which you will receive recognition. Please contact your employer to ask if your company offers this benefit. A list of companies is also on our website.
Q: Who should I contact if I have a question?
